Disciplining Children–
It’s All About Fully Developed Love
What kind of a parent are you: helicopter, free range, over protective, over permissive, or maybe a tiger mom?
Is there really one way of disciplining children that really fits you and your child to a T?
No, and here’s why. There are two really important things missing in today’s parenting approaches:
- Understanding how to meet a child’s most important need—to feel fully loved.
- How parents can fully develop their love
But in all this confusion there’s good news: The source for fully loving a child is found within each and every parent’s heart; it’s the capacity to love.
That’s the discovery Gary M. Unruh, MSW made after trying every parenting technique in the book with over 2,500 clients. Fully developing your parental love is what you’ll achieve by following his award-winning Unleashing Parental LoveTM program.
Love really has all the answers.
L is for Limit-setting. Whoever invented the word love knew that the first letter needed to stand for limit-setting. Good behavior just doesn’t happen. Appropriate behavior and the benefits of hard work—sticking with something until it’s done well—need to be learned through consistent limit-setting.
O is for Open Communication. Being understood builds self-worth. It means first listening to a child, especially during a conflict, and then putting the L into play—limit-setting. Yelling and consequences are not open communication.
V is for Valuing. At the center of love is the letter V for valuing and validating. Disciplining children effectively requires both V’s; they are as important as a child’s need for food. Value two things: what your child does right every day and the feelings a child has during a conflict.
E is for Empathy. Teaching your child to stand in another person’s shoes ensures less risk for physical health problems and develops kindness, compassion, and quality intimacy. It’s the lifeblood of enduring close relationships, the most gratifying life success your child can experience.
